Maintenance Mechanic:


Overview:
    Northern Star Company is the leading producer of high quality refrigerated potato products. In the process of producing refrigerated potato products, a Maintenance employee in the role of Mechanic is necessary to ensure the proper performance of the equipment.
Our openings are on night shift, 6pm – 6am, rotating nights (every other weekend). Pay is determined by qualifications and experience. General Summary:
    Under limited supervision a Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the proper installation, adjustments, repairs, lubrication, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of processing and packaging equipment. The position will require demonstrated experience in the areas of electrical diagnostics, PLC controllers, instrumentation, packaging equipment, pneumatics, welding, fabrication and machining.
Job Duties include:
  1. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical problems of all plant equipment (mechanical drive systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems).
  2. Must be able to troubleshoot and program complex automated equipment such as (Ishida) scales and (Mondini & MultiVac) fill & Seal machines.
  3. Candidate must be able to utilize the four main principles of troubleshooting (Investigating, Evaluating, Fixing and Preventing) and have excellent cognitive skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  4. Candidate must also have the ability to use all shop equipment (Lathe, milling machine, welding equipment and cutting tools).
  5. Repairs electrical equipment such as control circuits, motor starters and relays up to 480V, 3 phase.
  6. Performs all maintenance duties associated with building production functions including but not limited to conveyors, electro-mechanical control systems, safety devices, non motorized equipment, racking, handling equipment, power equipment, motors, pumps, hydraulics.
  7. Must be able to work independently with little or no direct supervision and must complete all work in a timely manner and must follow all quality & safety procedures, including (LOTO, GMP, HAZMAT, CONFINED SPACE, and PSM) procedures.
  8. Must be knowledgeable in the operating principles of the pneumatic waste system and able to troubleshoot and repair mechanical components.
  9. Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment.
  10. Use (SAP) computerized maintenance system for history and parts inventory; purchase/request replacement parts when necessary.
Required Experience/Skills:
  1. 2 year degree in Electrical/Fluid Power or 4+ years experience as a Maintenance Mechanic, or 2 years vocational training in maintenance mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, machine shop, electricity, electronics and programmable computers.
  2. Electrical license (preferred).
  3. Boiler & refrigeration are a PLUS but not required.
  4. Minimum 2 years experience in plant and (High Speed) production equipment maintenance.
