Maintenance Utility Supervisor:


Description & Purpose:
    Supervise utility maintenance crew that supports plant operations. Responsible for environmental issues, acting as liaison with regulatory agencies. Key skills are people management, operational, knowledge, training ability, developing expectations and follow through.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. Supervision of maintenance crew.
  2. Strong Food Processing/ Manufacturing background & experience.
  3. Ensure parts requisitioning is done properly.
  4. Create work orders and PM's.
  5. Assist with the installation of new equipment.
  6. Assist and/or lead mechanics in locating and diagnosing electrical and mechanical problems on all utility equipment.
  7. Ensures a safe work environment for employees is provided and that all employees are following all safety policies.
  8. Recognizes and takes steps to resolve operating problems in order to minimize their impact on the operations.
  9. Cooperates with all departments to assure a coordinated work relationship exists at all times.
  10. Keep accurate and up-to-date records (I.E. work orders, punch edits, etc.).
  11. Enforces company policies in a fair and consistent manner.
  12. Encourages suggestions from employees which will improve production, quality and/or control costs of production.
  13. Keeps manager informed on operating and/or employee problems which may require attention or knowledge.
  14. Schedule crew overtime.
  15. Involvement in Organizational Teams and committees.
  16. Ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations of Federal, State, and local municipalities with respect to Air, Water and Waste.
  17. Develop, implement, maintain and audit environmental programs providing regulatory guidance and assistance to plant management.
  18. Technically proficient at gathering environmental data and/or samples to maintain regulatory compliance standards.
  19. Responsible for regulatory reporting and environmental recordkeeping requirements such as but not limited to wastewater treatment, boiler permitting, etc.
Skills and Abilities:
  1. Associate degree (A.S.,A.A.) or two-year technical certificate in Mechanics and Electronics or a related field and two years of mechanical and electrical maintenance and supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  2. Ability to troubleshoot and repair refrigeration systems and components. Mechanics must have proper certification and training (Freon-EPA certified) to make repairs to systems.
  3. Ability to identify and understand the complexities of every energy source for each piece of utility equipment in the entire plant (electric, hydraulic, and pneumatic, etc.).
  4. Knowledge of basic mechanics, welding, electrical, fabrication, boilers, refrigeration, preventative maintenance, plant operations, PLC's, general electrical and government safety and environmental regulations.
  5. Able to supervise department personnel in a fair and consistent manner.
  6. Be able to recognize problems situations and take appropriate steps to resolve.
  7. Must have clear knowledge and understanding of high speed packaging and filling equipment.
  8. Strong understanding of Freon Systems, glycol chilling for processing as well as product coolers, distribution coolers and freezers, as well as 5 blast freezing cells.
  9. Knowledge of EPA, NJ DEP and local environmental laws and regulations.
  10. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
