MICHAEL FOODS ANNOUNCES VOLUNTARY RECALL OF HARD COOKED EGGS

MINNETONKA, Minn. (Jan. 26, 2012) – On Thursday, January 26, 2012, Michael Foods initiated a voluntary recall of three lot dates of hard-cooked egg products. Lab testing showed that these eggs could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The recall affects three specific lot dates (lot code numbers 1362W, 1363W, 1364W) of hard cooked egg products in brine sold in 10-pound and 25-pound containers to food service distributors and food manufacturers. None were sold directly from Michael Foods to consumers. Customers who purchased eggs from these lots have been notified, and we are working closely with them to ensure that products containing the eggs in question are removed from the market.

The safety and quality of our products are our highest priorities. We are investigating the source of the contamination, and remain vigilant in upholding our high standards of food safety and quality.

For additional questions, please contact Michael Foods customer service at (877) 367-3447. Media inquiries should be directed to Diane Sparish, (952) 258-4045.
