MINNETONKA, Minn. - November 17, 2012 - Michael Foods, a global food processor and distributor of eggs, refrigerated grocery and potato products, has achieved Safe Quality Food (SQF) Level 3 Certification at all of its production facilities.

SQF is recognized by retailers and foodservice providers worldwide because certification by the Safe Quality Food Institute sets high standards for a food producer’s safety and quality management systems. The highest level of SQF certification is Level 3, which requires a rigorous third-party audit process in addition to an extensive review of policies, procedures and systems.

“While our company already had stringent safety and quality programs in place, SQF certification helps cultivate a stronger culture of accountability at all levels,” said Steve Bacon, quality assurance vice president at Michael Foods. “The certification validates the food safety and quality programs that the Michael Foods team takes pride in and practices each day, and it is one more measure of our ability to serve our customers.”

SQF is unique because it requires companywide commitment from the ground up, within all levels of the organization, as well as cross-functional participation – from manufacturing and supply chain, through sales and customer service.

The SQF Program was launched in 1994 and is administered by the SQF Institute, a division of the Food Marketing Institute (FMI). SQF is one of only three certification systems recognized by the Global Food Safe Initiative (GFSI), which links primary production certification to food manufacturing, distribution and agent/broker management certification.
